The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved SpaceX’s application for two new models of antennas for its satellite communication system, Starlink. According to the application submitted by SpaceX, the new mini antennas measure 29 × 25 cm. These antennas are designed to provide portability and allow consumers to benefit from high-speed broadband communication with low latency, even in rural and remote areas.
The first mini antenna is specifically created for portability, enabling users to access high-speed broadband communication in areas where mobile or portable solutions are necessary, including rural and remote regions. The second antenna, an updated standard antenna, offers a high-performance solution for consumers, improving upon previous models of user terminals authorized by SpaceX Services. This second antenna measures 57 × 36 cm.
Although the application does not specify when these new antennas will be available for purchase, this approval signifies a significant step forward in expanding the capabilities and coverage of the Starlink satellite communication system.
SpaceX aims to provide global broadband coverage through a network of thousands of small satellites in low Earth orbit. This ambitious project has the potential to connect even the most remote and underserved areas, bridging the digital divide by offering affordable and high-speed internet access.
With the recent launch of 22 more Starlink internet satellites into orbit, SpaceX continues to advance its goal of delivering fast and reliable internet connectivity worldwide.
