Keep Space for Peace Week vigil for disarmament finds no shift change as a worker inside the shipyard reveals no electricity

In Maine, USA, 22 activists gathered for a disarmament vigil outside the gates of General Dynamics’ Bath Iron Works shipyard. Scheduled to coincide with the noon shift change, organizers were surprised to find empty parking lots indicating no one had come to work. An unidentified person inside the yard called out the reason: the power i.e. electricity was out. One of the peace people who used to live in Bath said she believes that the shipyard has its own power that is off the grid.

Another pointed out that the facility — where they build destroyers capable of nuclear missile deployment for the U.S. Navy — going dark was “a great metaphor.”

Blockade of the National Aerospace Summit with Peace Action Ōtautahi
– 8 October 2025

Direct action against companies in Aotearoa that are complicit in genocide.
As reported by Newstalk ZB:

Ōtautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand, October 2025

A statement from local activist group, Peace Action Ōtautahi, explained their action.

“They are protesting the explicit links between the aerospace industry, the US military, the Israeli Defence Force, and international weapons companies. Many have chained themselves to doorways and remain steadfast in the blockade.”

Spokesman Joseph Bray said there is “no place for war profiteers and genocide enablers in Aotearoa” and described it as an “insidious industry”.

“We have weapons manufacturers and foreign militaries operating here under the guise of humanitarian progress and innovation.

U.S.A.F. Croughton is a major U.S. communication & intelligence base in England
– 13 October

U.S.A.F. Croughton is one of the largest international intelligence hubs. This major U.S. communication and intelligence base supports many US military sites in Europe and is involved in world wide war operations. These include space communications, data links, military drone information, bomber guidance, missile defence, diplomatic communications, and command and control war fighting functions. A connected base is at Barford St John, Banbury, Oxfordshire.

It was a good demonstration and the rain held off!

Protest at MoD Corsham Space Warfare Centre
Sunday 12 October, Noon-1.30pm

The UK is strongly supporting US military expansion into space – including President Trump’s new multi-billion dollar ‘Golden Dome‘ programme –  with several US bases herein the UK directly involved in the space warfare programme.  Alongside this, one of three huge space radars the US Space Force are planning to develop is set to be built in south Wales though strongly opposed by local campaigners.  As well as supporting US military space programmes, the UK military too is expanding into space with military satellites being launched and spaceports being developed in Scotland.

On Sunday 12th October we held a protest outside the main gate of MoD Corsham, a major  of the key sites connected with the UK’s space warfare plans. MOD Corsham is home to the MoD’s Global Operations Security Control Centre (GOSCC), the Joint Security Co-ordination Centre(JSyCC), and Defence Digital. Skynet, a family of military communications satellites that provides strategic communication services to the UK Armed Forces and allies, is managed  from Corsham with Ground Control facilities adjacent.

YNET 6 – The Airbus-designed, state-of-the-art MILSATCOM is on track as the UK’s next secure military communications satellite.

Keep Space for Peace Week Protest in Asheville
– 10 October 2025

A group in North Carolina, USA with roots in the Resist Raytheon movement came together at their downtown Asheville peace garden (created in a formerly derelict empty lot) to say: no weapons in space!

Since 1992, the Global Network has been monitoring and opposing the militarization of space. A pipe dream at the time, space militarization is accelerating in the 21st century with the proliferation of missile “defense” systems that are sold to taxpayers as defensive but are in fact back ups for first-strike attacks on other nations. “Golden Dome” allegedly for all of North America and Europe (uh huh) and “T-Dome” for Taiwan are recent examples: horribly expensive, and guaranteed not to work.Join us to say no to the madness.
