Ukraine increased deployment of military troops to the eastern provinces on the border of Donbass. Russia predictably responded by mobilizing a large part of its military to meet the Ukraine threat. In another incident\, the US publicized two U.S. warships heading into the Black Sea; Russia warned US/NATO not to send warships and the US finally u-turned them in the Dardanelles passage\, the entryway from the Mediterranean into the Black Sea in response to this warning. \nUS/NATO gave “unwavering” support to the Ukrainian government but the Ukrainian president backpedaled on his threat to go to war to regain Crimea.
