SUMMARY:Keep Space for Peace Week - The Dangers of Crowded Orbits
DESCRIPTION:Lower Earth orbit (LEO) is becoming dangerously crowded and NASA scientists fear growing space debris and likely cascading collisions in orbit. This\, called the Kessler Syndrome\, would endanger space activities and the use of satellites which so much technology relies on to function.\nThe Global Network is involved in a legal action to pressure the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to follow the law and conduct environmental impact studies before approving the launching of satellites into space. In 1985-88 there were about 5000-6000 objects in orbit. Currently there are roughly 27\,000 human-made objects in space\nElon Musk’s Space X has launched 12\,000 satellites and various companies are now planning some 71\,000 more. The US is moving quickly to grab as many remaining LEO parking spaces as possible\, thereby preventing other nations from deploying satellites.\nCould the FCC be ignoring the law for monitoring environmental impacts because Congress and the Pentagon want to remove all impediments to US military domination of LEO?\nThe emblem of the Space Force\, Semper Supra\, Latin for always above\, shows

The crises are so impactful they seem to be fast tracking us toward a much-needed global awakening\, reckoning\, and rethinking of where we’re headed. \nAs people who care deeply about the state of the world\, we advocates/campaigners spend much of our time opposing what is wrong. DESCRIPTION:Bruce Gagnon has been to Russia and Ukraine several times in the last couple of years including leading a delegation of 25 on a study tour of Russia in 2019. The purpose of the tour was to listen\, learn\, and stand against the constant demonization of Russia by the media across the west. The idea was to build people-to-people bridges between our nations rather than an escalating arms race which could bring us WW III. During the WW II Nazi invasion of the former Soviet Union 27 million citizens lost their lives from the fascist attacks and occupation. The memory of that war is deep in the consciousness of the Russian people to this day. \nBruce is the Coordinator of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space which he co-founded in 1992. A few of his many projects and honors: State Coordinator of the Florida Coalition for Peace & Justice\, writer featured by Project Censored twice\, 2006 recipient of the Dr. Benjamin Spock Peacemaker Award\, current host of a public access TV show called This Issue running in 17 Maine communities and is featured by artist Robert Shetterly in his collection of portraits and quotes entitled Americans Who Tell the Truth.
